The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is adjusting its calendar to reduce the time between policy meetings.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) announced on Wednesday that it will be reducing the time between its November and December monetary policy meetings. The updated calendar shows a gap of 10 weeks between the early December 2026 meeting and the subsequent mid-February 2027 meeting. In comparison, there is a 12-week interval between the last meeting of 2025 and the first meeting of 2026. RBNZ Chief Economist Paul Conway emphasized that the main factor in scheduling monetary policy decisions is the availability of data, ensuring decisions are made based on comprehensive information. Conway stated in a release, "We recognize the perception that the period between November and February is lengthy and have explored options to shorten it while considering data availability constraints."
